Aufwiedersehen

My son, Pastor Kurt Klaus, has called it a reboot, that is Ken Klaus 2.0.

My wife, Pam, has referred to it as a REAL retirement (That is in contrast to a pretend  retirement where I continued to do many of the things, and be governed by many of the deadlines, I had followed throughout my ministry.)

Me, I’ve thought of it as a time to explore the possibility of writing a book, or helping a pastorless parish, or categorizing my ½ million sermon illustrations, or going to see the few places Pam and I haven’t yet checked off our bucket list.

Quite frankly we are looking forward to whatever the Lord has in store for us.

I do know, at least for the near future, I won’t be writing Daily Devotions. I loved doing the writing but posting and maintaining the website was not for me. With close to 5,000 Daily Devos under my belt, it is a strange feeling not having that ever-present deadline.

January 19th will be the last published or emailed devo.

Similarly, my 2020 Oberammergau trip is the last major outing that Pam and I will be hosting. There is still the possibility of a small, one bus trip to Israel, but that all depends on interest.

Before we sign off, we need  to say two things:
  1. Except for some minor wear and tear Pam and I are all right physically. We have not received any ominous or threatening medical reports and the worst thing we have scheduled is a bunion surgery for Pam.
  2. With the exception of a few party-poopers, we have absolutely loved the people we have worked with over the years. Clergy and laity alike have been a joy, and we will miss all of you. Special appreciation to five special, albeit  unnamed, folk who gave me the encouragement to begin, and keep up, this grand experiment.

In Christ, I remain, His servant and yours,

Kenneth R. Klaus

Although we will miss your inspiring and enjoyable devotions, we wish you an enjoyable retirement. Aufweidersehen to you as well and I look forward to our life on the other side of this world. We will meet all the saved once again. Thanks again.

Maybe not so lost. Pam gives me three weeks before I go crazy.

Pastor Klaus,
I have been reading your Daily Devotions to my students for the better part of my 13 year teaching ministry. My students have always appreciated your Gospel-oriented approach to the many newsworthy and noteworthy illustrations. Your devotions have inspired many a discussion in my classes and enabled me to help bring the Word of God to bear in the lives of many of my students. It will not be the same not starting my class with your devotions each day. Enjoy your much deserved "real retirement", but also know that your devotions have made a tremendous impact to the students in my classroom.

Dear Pastor Klaus,
When you get to the Lord's Heaven, there will be MANY homeless/low income people who will come to you and say Thank You for the wonderful Daily Devotions which they read in Seattle, Washington. As I complete giving haircuts at The Compass, a Lutheran Organization, I hand them a printed up Daily Devotion and say, "This is Hope and Encouragement for you." And should I forget to do this, they are quick to ASK for them! Thank you for participating in my ministry to these very special people.
I hope that the Archives will continue to be available to all after January 19th.
My prayer is for a blessed, happy, healthy retirement for you and your wife - whatever you do and where ever you go. God bless you!
Thankful person, Irene Gehring

It’s hard to put into words how comforting the sound of your voice and your messages have been to me and so many others. I know you are only “the messenger “ of The Good News but God has gifted you with the rare ability of delivering that message of hope. I enjoyed traveling with you and Pam to Israel and pray for many more years of good health for the both of you

You are most kind. I remember the verse.....Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? 10 So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants;[c] we have only done what was our duty.’” Luke 17: 9-10

Pastor Klaus,

You said you have written close to 5,000 devotions. If so, that means that I have read close to 5,000 of your devotions. I have used them in Bible Study groups, and forwarded many to others. They have meant so much to me in my life. I will surely miss them. Wanda and I wish you and Pam the best in your retirement.

Blessings,

Greg Walts
