TITLE: Do It Yourself
DATE: July 28, 2019 TEXT:. 1 Peter 2:24 ESV - He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. Christ is risen. He is risen, indeed. Most of us have followed programs on the DIY television channel. For those of you who haven’t been watching anything on DIY and are shaking your heads in ignorance, DIY stands for Do It Yourself. The channel is dedicated to sharing programs which tell the average, untalented and unskilled John and Jane how to do all kinds of things which would normally be beyond their skill level. So far I have not seen them build a space telescope, or show people how to do open-heart surgery, but just about everything else is free game for the DIY channel. Oh, there is one other thing DIY hasn’t done.... It hasn’t shown people how to create their very own counterfeit money. They might want to consider doing so, because, apparently, there is a need. Two weeks ago a 20-year-old German woman walked into an auto dealer in Kaiserlautern. She was interested in making a purchase, and to help her do so she had a paper bag which contained 50 and 100 euro notes, which amounted to $16,830 in U.S. currency. From what I’ve said, so far in this devotion, you know, you just know that she made these bills herself. And so she did...and she did a very bad job of it. Here are some of her mistakes.
Which all goes to prove, no matter what the DIY network may say, there are some things you can’t do yourself. After Adam and Eve sinned, they looked at each other and they knew there was no way they could make things right between themselves and God. Ever since that day humankind has been asking themselves, “How can I get myself back in God’s good graces?” And the answer everyone must realize is this: you can’t. You’re not good enough, smart enough, perfect enough, consistent enough to wipe away your sins. Which is why we need the Savior. Jesus did all which we could not. In His life, suffering, death and wonderful resurrection He invested Himself completely in our forgiveness and eternal life. THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, I give thanks that my Savior has resisted temptation, fulfilled the law and conquered death By Your grace may others see the wonders of Your love. In Jesus’ Name., Amen. The devotion for today was inspired by various recent news articles.
