TITLE: Falling Through the Cracks DATE: July 6, 2019 TEXT:. 1 Peter 3:18 – ESV - For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed. It seems to be a week in which we are talking about some of the inconveniences and difficulties which can happen if a person does a lot of traveling by air. Today we are going to talk about when a passenger slips through the cracks. You are acquainted with the phrase, aren’t you. People slip through the cracks when they are too inconsequential to be noticed. Projects slip through the cracks when nobody cares about that cause or is willing to invest themselves in it. If that’s the definition of slipping through the cracks, Tiffani Adams qualifies. Recently Tiffani was on a flight from Quebec City to Toronto. With not many passengers on board, those who were there spread out. Tiffani took advantage of a row of seats and fell asleep. Tiffani snapped awake about midnight, a few hours after the plane had landed. She was still strapped into her seat. The plane was freezing cold and she was in total darkness. Explaining her feelings, Tiffani said, “ Panic set in because I want(ed) off this nightmare ASAP." The first thing she did was try to power up her cell phone. Without power in the plane that didn’t work. She did manage to open up one of the plane’s doors, but that left her with a 40 to 50 foot drop to the tarmac below.. Eventually Tiffani found a flashlight and managed to get the attention of a baggage handler on the ground. He brought a ladder truck and rescued her. The airline offered Tiffani a ride to her house and has apologized. And for what did they apologize?? Very simple. they apologized for letting a passenger slip through the cracks. Now Tiffani’s story has a happy ending. But it is not always that way.
Of course the worst case of “falling through the cracks” is when someone for whom Jesus died is not saved. Now Jesus carried all of humanity’s sins to the cross. Nobody fell through the cracks. Look at our passage, It says :Jesus died “for sins once for all.” In John 3, it says God so loved THE WORLD, He gave His Son.” If Jesus doesn’t want anybody falling through the cracks we shouldn’t either. That is why we speak to our friends and family and co-workers about how all of us can be saved by grace through faith in the heaven-sent Redeemer. THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, for the Savior’s sacrifice, I am thankful,. I rejoice the Holy Spirit has placed in my heart. Now I pray you will help me bear witness to those who are in danger of falling through the cracks. This I ask in my Redeemer’s Name. Amen. The devotion for today was inspired by various recent news articles.
