I’m So Confused

TITLE: I’m So Confused
DATE: December 2, 2019

Christ is risen. He is risen, indeed.

TEXT: 2 Timothy 4:3-4  - ESV -3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound[a] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

Nuthin’ stays the same.

For example, schools  used to be entrusted with sharing the three “R’s.” You remember: readin’, writin’ and ‘rithmatic.” Now, many of the old skill sets are being eliminated, while, at the same time, new matters are coming to the educational fore.

It is always a hope that those new items are an improvement on the old.

It is our hope...but it is not necessarily our reality. For example, recently the parents of a six-year-old girl, filed a lawsuit against the school board, principal and teacher in the Devonshire Community Public School. It seems their daughter, who has been trying to figure out her identity and sexuality in this world had become confused when:
  1. Her teacher had played a YouTube video for the class on gender called, “He, She, and They?!? – Gender: Queer Kid Stuff #2.” That left the little girl wondering if she really was a little girl.
  2. Then the teacher drew a “gender spectrum” on the whiteboard and asked the children to pick where they fit on the spectrum. The six-year old put a mark at the far side of the spectrum marked “GIRL.” That was when the teacher said,, “girls are not real, and boys are not real.”

Speaking for her daughter, the mother said, “she was very confused by what her teacher was saying and was struggling to understand what it meant for her as a girl.”

Now the parents are not trying to condemn the idea that everyone should be respected. On the contrary. They believe that everyone should be honored because they are a unique individual blessed by the Lord with many unique gifts.

What they condemn is trying to raise people up by bringing other people down.

Our Savior would understand.

Look at His life and you will see that He didn’t discriminate. The world may have thought shepherds were unclean, but Jesus honored the profession by calling Himself the “Good Shepherd of the Sheep.”

When He went out to heal, He restored all who were brought to Him. He never hung out a sign which said that “Samaritans lepers need not apply.” And even though Jesus was on an emergency run, He still took the time to visit with a Canaanite woman who needed healing.

Today Jesus takes a look at all of us... with our individual gifts and special, sinful propensities. He looks at each of us and brings forgiveness to the worst, the hardest, the most scandalous of sins. He reaches out to us in our particular needs, and brings God’s light to our special darkness.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, in Your wisdom You have given to each of us special gifts. Originally those gifts were designed to praise You. Sadly, Satan has corrupted us and we have wandered. Send Your Holy Spirit upon us so that we might be forgiven, saved and prepared to dedicate our lives to You in thanksgiving. In Jesus’ Your holy Name I pray it. Amen.

The devotion for today was inspired by various recent news articles. The music which introduces and concludes our devotions was written by Guy Baumann. He along with three of his brothers perform on the album: The Baumann Brothers which may be ordered here: http://thebaumannbrothers.com/index.html
