TITLE: Laws Not For All
DATE: August 21, 2019 TEXT:. 2 Chronicles 7:14 - ESV - If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Bruce Hendricks is a U.S. District Judge in an area which embraces Greenville County Schools in South Carolina. Recently the Judge responded to a lawsuit which had been brought forth by the American Humanist Association (AHA). The AHA said they had brought forth the suit because they were representing those who were uncomfortable with the way things were being done in the school system. More specifically the objection was students did not wish to encounter government-sponsored religion at their own graduation ceremonies. Well, the Judge made his decision. Here are some of the highpoints(?) of his decision:
Obviously the Judge went to a great deal of work trying to make sure nobody ever did an end run around his ruling. Since the church began there have been others who have done the same thing. But are we truly ready, the next time we have a 9/11 terrorist attack, to stop Congress from singing, “God Bless America” on the steps of the Capital Building? And are we ready to stop the Supreme Court from beginning each session with an invocation? Or are those rules being written only for children, because twenty years from now, you will be able to accomplish your agenda? I can only imagine....and if that is the case, I have only one thing to say: We need the Triune God more than He needs us. If we walk away from Him, He will raise up another nation which will honor Him. He has done so in the past; He can do so in the future. THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, forgive us for so quickly forgetting how instrumental You are in the lives of our nations and our families. Let us be called back so we may worship You in spirit and in truth. In the Name of our Savior, I pray it. Amen. The devotion for today was inspired by various recent news articles.
