The Complete Cure

TITLE: The Complete Cure
DATE:  August 28, 2019
TEXT:. 1 John 1:7-9 – ESV - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

When we last heard from the Ebola folks the disuse had managed to make it to a major city with an airport. Since that time the world has waited for the “other shoe to drop” and hear there have been numerous outbreaks in the world’s concentrated populations.

That hasn’t happened. What has happened is the health crews in the Congo began trying two new medicines.
  1. One of those drugs was developed by Regeneron pharmaceuticals.
  2. The other was produced by NH researchers.

Both drugs are antibodies which work by blocking the virus. Dr. Anthony Fauci of the U.S. National Institutes of Health says, early results have produced "some very good news,.” He continued, “With these drugs, we may be able to improve the survival of people with Ebola."

Now I don’t know Dr .Fauci, nor am I acquainted with the National Institutes of Health, but unless I miss my guess, he was talking in the understated language of the Scientist. Where he said we have ‘some very good news’ he meant to say, ”Yippee!” or if He happens to be a religious man, “Praise the Lord, “Hallelujah.”

So, just how good was the news?

I don’t know. Nobody seems to be coming up with exact numbers or sharing any of the statistics from the study. What I can tell you is this: the news is so good that they have shut down the test. No longer are they going to divide them into groups and use placebos. No, they’re going to give just about anybody who has the illness the shot..

Will it cure everybody. I doubt it. You’ve got to have a pretty good medicine to cure everybody. There may indeed be such a medicine, but I have never heard of it. Perhaps some of my Physician friends can enlighten me.

Oh wait, I was wrong.

I do know of such a medicine. You won’t find it at Walgreens or CVS. It isn’t marketed on TV with a lengthy and lethal list of complications.

The introduction to this medicine comes from some unlikely sources: there’s the Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, who says we are healed by Jesus’ stripes; then there is the man crying in the wilderness. Dressed in camel skin, John proudly points to the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world.

Then there is another John; the beloved disciple John who says: Jesus blood cleanses us from all sin.

Not just some sin; not most sin; not the majority of sin, but all sin. 100% of the time; for every sinner who is called to repentance and faith by the Holy Spirit.

Which make Jesus blood a most extraordinary medicine indeed. ‘

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, I certainly did not earn this medicine, and I could never pay for it. Even so I thank You for granting me the only cure from sin; the only hope for sinful humankind. In Jesus Name, I pray it. Amen.

The devotion for today was inspired by various recent news articles. For further reading you may wish to go to this address: https://www.newser.com/story/279067/study-results-are-very-good-news-for-ebola-patients.html land the article written by  Newser Editors.
The music which introduces and concludes our devotions was written by Guy Baumann. He along with three of his brothers perform on the album: The Baumann Brothers which may be ordered here: http://thebaumannbrothers.com/index.html
